Please join us as we kick off our 2018 meeting season with great conversation and networking opportunities!
Real Local RVA welcomes Trista Grigsby of the Virginia Department of Education as the February keynote speaker. Grigsby will provide a snapshot of the Farm to School program in Virginia with a focus on the greater Richmond region. She will highlight a new program beginning this year centered around developing regional Farm to School Networks to improve the local connection between farms and schools. Join us to learn more about the exciting Farm to School programs happening statewide and how you can be involved!
Trista Grigsby brings a lifetime of food, farming, teaching, and nonprofit experience to her position as Farm to School Specialist for the Virginia Department of Education. She has 11 years of food service and management experience in various restaurants from fast food to fine dining, but her real love of food was cultivated by working on various organic farms which led her to start her own truckpatch, Peacevine Farm, in 2003. She developed and implemented a K-12 Farm-to-School program in Rappahannock County Public Schools (RCPS) for 10 years and holds her teacher’s license in horticulture and her Serv-Safe food manager’s certification. She served as Director of Nutrition Services for Rappahannock County Public Schools before moving to Richmond, where she and her family reside. Trista has a B.A. in English with minors in biology and sustainable development from Appalachian State University.
Thanks to our Food Sponsor Salsas Don Sebastian who will be on hand with samples of their delicious homemade salsas.
