“Building a Successful Workplace”
Please join us to learn the Gelati Celesti Story from co-owner Steve Rosser. Steve will take us through the details of company growth, how they’ve built a successful ice cream empire in RVA, and the importance of hiring (and keeping) the right people when it comes to building a successful workplace.
Gelati Celesti began in 1984 as a collaboration between father and son, Peter and John Edmonds. The two opened the business with one location in Richmond with a shared vision and a single goal—to bring joy to others by making the very best ice cream possible, scooped up with the very best service. Ice creams were prepared fresh daily in the back of the store and sold by the cone, the cup, or hand-packed for taking home. Steve purchased the single store company in 2010 and since that time has expanded the company from an employee base of 9 to over 130 full and part time employees. Gelati Celesti currently has 6 retail stores; 5 in Richmond and a recently opened store in Virginia Beach. Additionally, the company operates a food truck often seen at local festivals and events. Each store sells anywhere from about 500 to 800 servings of ice cream a day in the summer. The company also supplies ice cream to some of Richmond’s most distinctive restaurants. Through the years Gelati Celesti has stayed true to its roots, with their unique recipe and philosophy remaining unchanged. They still make ice cream the way they did when the company started in 1984 — with a small freezer, one batch at a time. Prior to his entrepreneurial journey, Steve spend 25 years in the corporate world with roles in sales, marketing and general management.
**Real Local RVA meetings are open to both members and those interested in supporting the local food system. Meetings are free, we just ask that you register!
